Twisted pair cables for computer networks are known as category 5 cable (Cat 5). Since 2001, the Category 5e standard has been the most widely used variation (Cat 5e). The cable standard can support most types of Ethernet over twisted pair up to 2.5GBASE-T[1][2][3][4], however it is most frequently used for 1000BASE-T (Gigabit Ethernet) speeds. Other communications like phone and video are also sent through Cat 5 cable.
